With just one day to go until the inaugural Escape Travel AFA Cup, the media team are catching up with each of the participating sides. The final team to come under the microscope is the Ballarat Women’s side of Victoria. We speak with their French international Mylene Deschamps about her hopes and ambitions ahead of the tournament.

Deschamps is an experienced campaigner, having played futsal in France for a number of years before making the move to Australia. She captained her country at the 2017 IFA World Cup in Spain, a tournament where her side earned a lot of plaudits.

Deschamps said: “I’m pretty excited to play this tournament as it will be a good opportunity to play some very competitive teams and to assess the level of our team. We didn’t have ideal preparation as everyone has been very busy during the soccer season. This tournament will be the beginning of our preparation for the Nationals Club Championship. However, we know how important the event is in its own right.”

She continued: “I am looking forward to compete against new teams and having media coverage is a great opportunity to promote futsal in Australia. The standard of play is excellent and this tournament gives us the platform to showcase it.

Descamps rounded off by saying: “Whilst winning is important, we are also looking to improve as players by playing against very good teams and off the pitch, it will be exciting to meet new people from across the country.”

The full Ballarat squad is as follows: Maddi Nobbs, Paige Daly,  Mylene Deschamps, Margot Robinne, Emily Coppock, Alyson Pym, Joann Lardner, Breanna Coombes, Daniella Gallucio, Ili Jakab, Jessica Au, Azize Erenli.
